TL;DR: We're building a modern tax engine for accountants and fintechs building on tax: a deterministic tax calculation and e-filing core behind a single API, built on the IRS's official e-file infrastructure (MeF).
We're Angelo and Akash, and we built Luca IQ, a new tax engine for accounting firms. One set of inputs in, a completed, filed return out in minutes. Not bolted onto decades out desktop software.
For CPA firms, that means more returns per preparer, less spend on labor, and a clean path off 30-year-old desktop software. For the PE groups acquiring and scaling firms, it means real operating leverage on the single most labor-intensive part of the business.
The problem. ~95% of US firms file their returns through just four companies, and all of them were built decades ago, for the desktop, and are closed. Firms are stuck running tax season on software that can't scale with them. Every modern AI tax tool just pushes data into that same closed software it can't control. Everyone rebuilt the interface.
What we built. A new one, and we're opening it. A key principle: AI never does the tax math. AI and human judgment set the inputs, and a deterministic engine computes the return, with a full audit trail on every number. It's either 100% correct or it's wrong, and only a deterministic engine can promise the former. For firms, that means throughput without giving up accuracy or defensibility.
Our core leverage: we're an IRS-authorized e-file provider as a Software Developer, Transmitter, and Intermediate Service Provider, so Luca IQ doesn't just compute the return, it e-files straight to the IRS. That full path, calculation through filing, is what firms can't get from a closed engine today.
Why now. The profession is running out of people. 300,000+ accountants have left since 2019, and ~70% of CPAs are near retirement. At the same time, private equity is rolling up firms and pushing hard on margin. The work isn't going away. The people are, and the pressure to do more with fewer preparers has never been higher.
Who we are. Angelo (CEO) is a CPA who worked in forensic accounting with the FBI, Wall Street, EY and spent years working at tax firms using the legacy softwares we are now replacing. Akash (CTO) was employee #1 at a fintech data-infrastructure startup and leads engineering.
