AI-powered mastery learning for K-12

Bloomy helps students learn more efficiently by using AI to identify exactly what a student should learn and when they should learn it. We provide adaptive and personalized curriculum to K-12, starting with English Language Arts, Math, and Writing.

Bloomy: AI-powered mastery learning for K-12

Hi everyone - I'm Alex, founder of Bloomy.

TL;DR: We help kids learn faster by using AI. In early pilots, students grew ~2x faster than the national average.

Bloomy is an AI-powered mastery learning platform for K-12 students. We diagnose students’ skill gaps, place students on a personalized learning path, and give them standards-aligned lessons and a Socratic AI tutor that helps without just giving away the answer.

Why I'm building this

I started as a teacher. I taught 7th grade English and Writing with Teach For America, and every day I struggled to deliver differentiated instruction to 30 students with 30 different sets of needs.

Some students needed remediation, some needed acceleration, and many needed a tutor sitting next to them helping them reason through the next step. Benjamin Bloom's 2-sigma result always felt obviously true to me; the hard part was making that kind of tutoring affordable and available to every child.

Then AI changed the cost curve.

When I saw innovative school concepts such as Alpha School, the model clicked: mastery-based learning, personalization, and high-agency students. But I kept thinking about the families and schools that already exist: homeschool families, microschools, hybrid schools, and regular classrooms where most kids are today.

What Bloomy does

Bloomy starts with a diagnostic (we integrate with third-party diagnostics and provide our own in-house one) and places each student onto a personalized learning path. Students work one skill at a time, get a short, standards-aligned lesson, practice, ask BloomyBot for Socratic help when they're stuck, and only move forward after showing 90%+ mastery. The skill path updates live based on the student’s performance and our own knowledge graph.

Our knowledge graph informs skill progression to make learning more efficient.

Parents and teachers can see what the student has mastered, what's in progress, and where they need support.

Where we are

We're being adopted in many different contexts: districts with traditional schools, charter schools, hybrid schools, microschools, homeschools, and even families who just want some extra academic support for their kids.

Families can subscribe to Bloomy monthly or annually, and families using ESA/EFA funds may also qualify for direct pay or reimbursement depending on their state’s rules.

Before Bloomy, I taught with TFA, earned my Master’s in Education, designed GMAT and GRE curriculum for Manhattan Prep, led Lyft’s driver growth team for New England, earned an MBA from Stanford, and managed AI transformation engagements at McKinsey. Bloomy is the thing that combines all the aspects of my career: learning design, go-to-market, and AI.
