Backstory
I (Rishi) ran operations at LAT Aerospace (Deepinder Goyal’s aerospace startup) as part of their founding team. On paper, that meant "sourcing." In practice, it meant finding jet engines, flight controllers, high-density batteries, and satellite radios for a very ambitious aerospace program, then moving machinery and merchandise worth millions across borders, and finding and operating real estate you can actually fly aircraft from. I also handled government liaisoning, which is a polite way of saying I convinced the world's harshest bureaucracy to approve things it didn't have a form for, like taking off and landing an aircraft in under 50 meters.
Tushar has been working the other end of this problem his whole career. At WareIQ (YC S20), he built the autonomous inventory system behind 400+ Indian D2C brands - forecasting demand and making buying decisions across thousands of volatile SKUs without blowing up working capital.
So between us: I've spent my career buying hardware the hard way, and Tushar's spent his teaching machines to manage inventory. Waybill is both jobs in one system.
The problem
Hardware engineers spend a big chunk of their week buying parts. They can't hand it off to operations folks, because only the engineer who specified the part knows which alternates are acceptable. And finding parts is genuinely hard: stock is scattered across distributor catalogs, resellers, and Alibaba listings, and packaging suffixes, obsolete part numbers, and regional inventory make the same part look like six different parts. It's a search, not a lookup.
All of this runs on email, WhatsApp, and spreadsheets. No system of record, and context dilutes at every handoff. Parts land late, arrive undocumented, or get bought twice. I know because at LAT, I was the system of record. It didn't scale.
What we built
An engineer tells Waybill what they need. Our agents find every authorized distributor and manufacturer rep stocking that part anywhere in the world, request quotes and lead times, and rank the options by what the customer actually cares about. A defence company only wants suppliers from allied nations. A medical device company needs provenance. Everyone else wants the right balance of cost, lead time, and complexity.
If no distributor has it, our network in India, China, and Southeast Asia finds it. If a supplier can't ship to the customer's country, we pick up the box and ship it ourselves.
Once the order is placed, our agents prepare the customs paperwork, a licensed broker files it, parts are received into inventory automatically, and the invoice is automatically matched against the PO and import documents. The next time someone asks for that part, the agent says it's already on the shelf.
And when a customer moves from R&D to production, the same system scales with them. Demand comes off the BOM and build schedule - reorder points, second sources, volume pricing - and we already hold every order, price, and lead time they've ever had.
Most procurement software ends at an approved PO. We end at a physical part on a shelf, customs-cleared and invoice-matched.
Rippling made the employee the first-class object and built every service around it. We're doing the same for the part.

Where this goes
A hardware company should be able to ask us for anything physical and get it. Today that's parts. Next it's PCB fab and assembly, CNC machining, 3D printing, tooling, trucking, warehousing, and allocation on ships and planes. The interface never changes: say what you need, and it arrives.
