Why we are working on this

We’ve spent our careers as engineers building and maintaining complex backend systems, and learning firsthand what it takes to make them reliable, secure, and scalable.

• Fabian spent three years at Stripe, where he was tech lead for systems that processed tens of billions of dollars each year.
• Iman spent four years at startups like Fever and Braive, building software that balanced national energy grids and managed sensitive healthcare data under strict regulatory requirements.

As AI unlocks software building at an entirely new scale and speed, backends need to keep up in reliability, security and scalability. Specific is our way of making that possible.

Backends are hard

Backend-as-a-service platforms have made backend development much easier, but not easy enough for a new era where AI lets anyone build software in minutes.

They still require deep understanding of concepts like database schemas, migrations, security and APIs to use effectively. That limits how powerful and flexible non-technical users can be. Ambitions often exceed what the platforms make possible.

This gap becomes particularly clear for AI coding platforms. Their agents can generate impressive web and mobile apps, but still rely on users to sign up for and connect to an external backend provider. Integrating those providers can take weeks, and maintaining them is an ongoing effort to make sure the agent truly understands how to use them.

How Specific helps

Specific offers a backend-as-a-service that’s entirely generated and maintained by our own expert coding agent. We designed it to understand user needs from natural language prompts, and to build a tailor made backend automatically.

You can connect any coding agent to Specific in minutes through our MCP server. Once connected, you can now generate fully featured, secure, and scalable backends to match any frontend.

Because the backend is built and managed by our own agent, there’s no need to teach your agent how to use an external platform or maintain fragile integrations. Specific handles everything end-to-end, scaling seamlessly as projects grow.

For our initial launch, we are working with AI coding platforms like Natively that create thousands of new projects every day. We are hearing from these platforms that they want to focus on what they do best, designing and building great apps, without worrying about backends.
