Kara: Making Diamond an Engineering Material
Kara grows and engineers diamond wafers for thermal management, semiconductor and quantum applications
**TL;DR:** We grow high-purity diamond wafers for scientific and industrial applications. Our diamond thermal wafers can be used in aircraft, spacecraft, RF electronics, and lasers to move heat dramatically better than conventional materials. We’re helping hardware run cooler, faster, and more reliably with diamond that is 5× more thermally conductive than copper.

Here is a link to our launch video:

<https://youtu.be/16aad1cU_FM>

**The Problem**

The world’s most valuable hardware systems are limited by how quickly they can remove heat.

For AI chips, that means expensive GPUs throttle and deliver less compute. In aircraft and satellites, it means carrying more cooling mass. In RF systems and lasers, it limits sustained output power.

Adding more cooling costs space, and energy, and sometimes is simply not possible.

**What We Built**

Diamond is usually something you wear. We make it something engineers can build with.

Diamond conducts heat up to **5× better than copper while weighing \\~60% less** for the same volume. It is electrically insulating and stable in extreme environments.

Today we manufacture:

* Diamond heat spreaders for AI and high-performance computing
* Ultra-high-purity diamond wafers for thermal, photonic and quantum applications
* Diamond-metal composites (copper and aluminium) for thermal management
* Metallized and bondable diamond plates
* Custom-engineered diamond components

We are now producing custom samples under pilot agreements and purchase orders for thermal, electronic, aerospace, and quantum applications.

Silicon transformed computing when we learned to manufacture it with extreme purity and control. Kara is doing the same with diamond. Today, our ultra-high-purity diamond pulls heat away from silicon chips.

**Tomorrow, Kara’s control over purity and defects unlocks diamond as the ultimate semiconductor.**

**Why us**

[@Aarin Jhaveri](https://bookface.ycombinator.com/user/3669602) is a fifth-generation diamantaire who has sold millions of dollars in natural and lab-grown diamonds and worked across the supply chain.

[@Anuveer Chadha](https://bookface.ycombinator.com/user/3669310) is a chemical engineer who has worked on diamond quantum sensing and advanced-materials research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory with the Department of Defense and Department of Energy.

Diamond is our unfair advantage. We know how to grow, control, and engineer it far beyond jewelry.

**Our ask**

**Today, we're looking for introductions to engineers building hardware that is limited by heat.**

Specifically:

* AI accelerator packaging teams
* Advanced packaging / OSAT engineers
* Aerospace, space, and defence electronics
* Data-centre infrastructure companies
* High-power RF and GaN teams

Introduce us to the engineer responsible for the hottest, hardest-to-cool hardware, especially where size, weight, or power makes cooling difficult.

We’ll build them a custom diamond sample to test.

Email us at [founders@karalabs.ai](mailto:founders@karalabs.ai) or book time here: <https://calendly.com/aarin-berkeley/aarin-jhaveri-s-calender>

**Diamond spent centuries as a symbol of “extraordinary”. We are making it something the world can build with.**
//bookface-static.ycombinator.com/assets/ycdc/yc-og-image-c440a0ad1dacfb86eeeb343717479cc54d256614449b4ef719977a0a451f8bc8.png
["Hardware","B2B","Manufacturing","Advanced Materials
https://bookface.ycombinator.com/company/32137"}}
