That gets us near-free cooling, no interconnection queue, no local opposition, and 2x faster deployment. First gas-powered pilot ready by 2028.\n\nWhy now: AI has created unprecedented demand for compute and power that cannot be satisfied onshore.\n\n* Grid interconnection timelines are **approaching a decade**.\n* Data centers drive up the local cost of electricity, rent and land, and make water scarce. Community opposition rising from those reasons has **killed more than half of planned projects** since 2025.\n\nWhat we're building: standardized, plug-and-play data center barges, built on one manufacturing line and towed to site. Moving offshore gives us:\n\n* **No interconnection queue and no community impact** because our system operates standalone.\n* More **scalable architecture** that offers **faster deployment** and tighter-controlled deliverability due to centralized construction and repeated site licensing\n* **Lower energy cost** due to **less capacity overbuild** than onshore behind-the-meter and **cheaper financing** for repeatable manufacturing compared to on-site construction (financing = \\~2/3 of the lifetime cost of a nuclear project)\n* Virtually **free cooling** from seawater.\n\nTraction: We already have early partnerships in place across the two hardest parts of this build:\n\n* **Offshore design \u0026amp; construction:** working with established offshore barge designer/builders.\n* **Nuclear power:** partnerships with multiple SMR vendors.\n\nWhy us: We're a two-founder team out of MIT with the exact mix this needs.\n\n* [@Emile Germonpre](https://bookface.ycombinator.com/user/3640819) has a PhD in nuclear engineering.\n* [@Dimitris Koutentakis](https://bookface.ycombinator.com/user/697566) has a BS/MEng in EECS, an MS in Mechanical Engineering, and an MBA, all from MIT, with deep connections to the Greek shipping industry.\n\n**Our ask:** We're looking for intros to decision-makers in compute infrastructure or data center development we can sell to, VPs of Data Center Construction, Directors of Infrastructure, and hyperscaler / neocloud teams.
