{"id":100942,"title":"Meru Health: A precision, whole-person mental healthcare company","tagline":"The new standard of mental healthcare","body":"Meru Health is a precision, whole-person mental healthcare company. Today we launched **Meru Health Advanced** — a 6 to 12 month integrated psychiatry and therapy program for the patients standard care has failed most completely: treatment-resistant depression and anxiety, severe mental illness, and mental health stacked on chronic physical illness.\n\nEvery patient starts with a real diagnosis: comprehensive psychiatric visits, a 30–50 biomarker lab panel, and a coordinated team — psychiatrist, therapist, dietitian, care navigator — on one platform. Plus continuous biometric data via Whoop, HRV biofeedback, and lab-informed lifestyle and supplement protocols.\n\nAcross 17 peer-reviewed studies (Stanford, Harvard, UCSF, UC Davis, Washington, Rutgers), 55–67% of our patients achieve a 50%+ reduction in depression symptoms in 2–3 months — vs 19–33% on SSRIs. Accorded actuarial analysis: 55% fewer inpatient admissions, 31% fewer ER visits, 23% lower Rx costs.\n\n## **Demo video**\n\n\u003chttps://youtu.be/KFnCtezutDo\u003e\n\n## **What's the backstory?**\n\nKristian and his co-founders Riku and Albert founded Meru after Kristian had lost his brother Peter to suicide. Standard psychiatry couldn't help him; the antidepressants he was prescribed only made him worse. He wasn't an outlier — 30–40% of people with mental health conditions get labeled \"treatment-resistant,\" a phrase I read as a confession that the model itself runs out of options after the second or third prescription.\n\nA decade and 45,000 patients in, our 12-week Therapy program is enough for most. But the most complex patients needed something more: a psychiatrist who understands metabolic and lifestyle medicine, comprehensive labs, a dietitian, and a team that operates as one. That combination didn't exist anywhere. So we built it.\n\n## **What are your asks?**\n\n**1. Patient intros** — anyone who's tried the standard path and not gotten better, especially treatment-resistant and severe conditions, or mental health on a chronic illness. \u003chttps://www.meruhealth.com/advanced\u003e\n\n**2. Employer / benefits intros** — Advanced is built for the 6–12% of an employee population driving 30–50% of healthcare spend. Self-insured employers, CHROs, total rewards leads.\n\n**3. Payer intros** — actively expanding insurance coverage. Commercial plans, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid.\n\n**4. Amplification** — likes, shares, and tags on today's LinkedIn + X launch posts.\n\nTen years in, this is the closest we've come to building the program we wished my brother had had.\n\n— Kristian Riku and Albert  ","slug":"QG6-meru-health-a-precision-whole-person-mental-healthcare-company","created_at":"2026-05-07T17:54:21.738Z","updated_at":"2026-05-25T03:19:58.572Z","total_vote_count":15,"url":"https://www.ycombinator.com/launches/QG6-meru-health-a-precision-whole-person-mental-healthcare-company","share_image_url":"//bookface-static.ycombinator.com/assets/ycdc/yc-og-image-c440a0ad1dacfb86eeeb343717479cc54d256614449b4ef719977a0a451f8bc8.png","company":{"id":1935,"name":"Meru Health","slug":"meru-health","url":"http://www.meruhealth.com","logo":"https://bookface-images.s3.amazonaws.com/small_logos/ff0e4ec05f88c63eda462c8b5d235f5b4a5e19c0.png","batch":"Summer 2018","industry":"Healthcare","tags":["Mental Health Tech","Digital Health","Healthcare"],"search_path":"https://bookface.ycombinator.com/company/1935"}}
