Forge Robotics - The Future of Manufacturing

Forge Robotics gives manufacturing companies the ability to make parts fully autonomously

Hey everyone, we’re Eoin and Robert, co-founders of Forge Robotics.

We are completely changing the way that metal fabrication is done. Companies can no longer afford to deal with massive labour shortages and rising costs of outdated processes. Forge is on the journey to enable companies to take in raw stock metal and output completed metal parts without human intervention.

TL;DR

Forge is building a system that turns dumb, human-programmed industrial welding robot arms into autonomous members of the workforce.

From here, we will deliver autonomous factory units that handle all processes in metal fabrication, from handling cut parts and positioning them for assembly, to welding and cleaning up final assemblies.

🏭 The Problem

Manufacturing is an industry that has been all but left behind for the past 20 years compared to the advances in software development, self-driving vehicles, and all other fields that AI has revolutionised.

Labour shortages

Manufacturing of defence equipment, construction machines, and automotive make up the backbone of much of the American economy. In the U.S, there are 400,000 unfilled welding positions, and that is expected to rise to 600,000 by 2030.

Push to reshore

OEMs and Tier 1 manufacturers are pushing to reshore their manufacturing, but traditional methods of operation mean that they are failing to operate profitably when competing with manufacturing in offshore economies.

Failure of current automation

Current industrial robots can only achieve a very narrow set of well-defined manufacturing tasks because of the way robots are programmed. Traditionally programmed welding robots end up with around 10% of parts needing rework due to the delta in geometry from part to part.

🦾 Our solution

Forge provides a vision system and robotic intelligence that creates a sub-mm map, identifies all features and weld seams, and autonomously controls the welding robot arms.

Metal fabrication companies will now:

  • No longer have to manually program robotic arms
  • Achieve 99% first pass line yield, up from the current 90%
  • Use robotic welding arms in many previously infeasible situations

♾️ Fully autonomous production

Using the manufacturing intelligence system that we are working on for factories today, we will be delivering fully autonomous modular factory units that handle all of the metal manufacturing processes to take raw steel parts to finished welded assemblies. Saving companies Tens of millions per year by changing the way they manufacture.
