However, when a business imports goods, they are allowed to claim a refund on the taxes they paid if they later export or scrap goods - this process is called duty drawbacks.\n\n$6 billion dollars of recoverable duties go unclaimed every year, and that was before Trump’s new tariffs. Most companies don’t file for drawbacks because the process is extremely cumbersome \u0026 complicated. The biggest companies have compliance teams \u0026 specialized customs brokers supporting them on multi-million dollar claims, but if you’re a small or medium-sized business, you have no options.
