About the role

Y Combinator is the leading startup accelerator for entrepreneurs. Since 2005, YC has invested in over 5,000 companies, including Airbnb, Dropbox, OpenAI, Stripe, Reddit, DoorDash, Coinbase, and Instacart. Today, YC has built the most powerful startup community in the world and is committed to supporting founders for the life of their company.

Y Combinator is looking for the perfect candidate to help our executive support team with on-site and off-site events. This is a full-time (exempt) position. Candidates must live in the SF Bay Area and be available to work onsite at our offices located at Pier 70, San Francisco. Evening and occasional weekend work are required.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter and has the proven ability to prioritize, stay organized, and multitask within a team of EAs on events and other administrative ad-hoc projects, based out of our San Francisco headquarters. This is an amazing opportunity if you’re curious about startups and enjoy learning about how they get started, and would find it interesting to meet the kinds of people who start them.

This is also a unique opportunity to get many of the perks of working for a successful company - competitive salary and excellent benefits, including fully paid health care benefits, while working on a small, fast-moving, and high-impact team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and execution, and attend events organized at the various YC offices and other locations, ranging from 10 to ~1000 people. You must be available to work evenings and occasionally on weekends.
  • Support our EA team with preparation for meetings & events, and complete ad hoc tasks expeditiously and proactively.
  • Administrative tasks, including scheduling and calendar management.
  • Work cross-functionally with other YC team members as needed.
  • This is an on-site position, primarily at our offices located at Pier 70, San Francisco.

Skills & Experience:

  • You have 2-5 years of experience as an administrative assistant and/or working in an operations/support position and/or events position.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Evidence of strong writing ability will be valued highly.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • High level of confidentiality, professionalism, and flexibility.
  • Friendly demeanor.
  • Bonus points: You are familiar with startups.
  • Bonus points: You have event planning experience.

Every employee at YC has a lot of individual responsibility and access to sensitive information, so we need to hire people we can trust. Your ability to make good trade-offs and exercise good judgment is particularly important to us.

Location: This is an on-site position at our offices located at Pier 70, San Francisco. Candidates must live in the SF Bay Area.

Compensation: $120,000 to $140,000 salary.

Benefits: Our full benefits package includes medical, vision, and dental plans, infertility benefits, STD/LTD, life insurance, commuter benefits, flexible spending account, health savings account, 401(k) + 4% matching, accrued sick leave, and paid time off.

Work Authorization: This position does not support work authorization/visa sponsorship.

About Y Combinator

Y Combinator has a small ~12 person team that makes the software that runs YC. Hardly any investors write software, but YC was started by programmers so it's natural for us to solve our problems that way. We believe our software is a key competitive advantage and we are investing aggressively in new software products.

As a member of the software team, you'll get full access to the YC program, just like founders do. You'll learn the ins and outs of how YC works, and you'll get to follow and learn from hundreds of companies. You'll meet some of the most successful people in the startup world and get exposed to the best startup ideas. And of course, if you ever want to start your own company, you’ll learn a lot about that from working at YC.
