About the role

Own Windmill's growth - from developer awareness to self-serve activation to expansion. So far, 3M ARR has been built with zero outbound and reasonable marketing efforts - imagine what a dedicated growth person could do. This is a broad, high-autonomy role spanning developer marketing, community, content, and product-led growth.

  • Content & developer marketing: write technical content (tutorials, comparisons, case studies) that developers actually want to read. SEO, social, community channels.
  • Community: grow and engage the open-source community - Discord, GitHub, forums. Surface feedback, spotlight contributors.
  • Product-led growth: improve onboarding, activation funnels, self-serve conversion. Work with product/engineering on growth experiments.
  • Analytics: measure what works - traffic, signups, activation, expansion. Data-driven iteration.

Who we're looking for

Ideal candidate: you've already done growth / developer marketing for a devtool company and can point to concrete results - content that drove signups, community programs that scaled, funnels you optimized. That hands-on devtool growth experience is the single strongest signal for this role.

Two profiles fit well:

  1. A software engineer who wants to branch out - you've built things, you speak the language, and you want to explore the DevRel / growth side while staying close to the product.
  2. A hacky non-engineer with a strong affinity for tech - you may not write production code, but you understand developer tools deeply, learn fast, and can credibly engage a technical audience.

Either way:

  • Proven devtool growth experience is strongly preferred. You've grown awareness, adoption, or revenue for a developer-facing product and can show what worked.
  • You understand how developers evaluate tools, what content resonates with them, and how open-source adoption works.
  • You can write clearly about technical topics - blog posts, docs, comparisons.
  • Comfort with analytics, funnels, and experimentation. You don't just create content - you measure its impact.
  • Scrappy and autonomous - this is an early-stage role with wide scope.
  • 0–4 years of experience in growth, developer marketing, developer relations, or a technical role with a growth bent.

Example projects in your first 3 months

  • Write and ship a head-to-head comparison series (Windmill vs Airflow, Temporal, Retool, n8n) optimized for search
  • Redesign the onboarding flow to get new signups to a running workflow in under 3 minutes - measure activation lift
  • Launch a community showcase program - spotlight real customer use cases on blog, Discord, and social
  • Build a self-serve analytics dashboard tracking the full funnel from landing page to paid conversion
  • Run a targeted campaign around a major product launch - landing page, demo video, HN/Reddit/X distribution

About Windmill

Windmill is an open-source developer platform (16k+ GitHub stars, Paris-based) that turns scripts into workflows, internal tools, and full-stack apps. It's the sweet spot between Retool and Temporal - we compete with both, plus Airflow and n8n, and we're winning on DX and performance.

How it works: write scripts in Python, TypeScript, Go, Bash, Rust, SQL, etc. Windmill analyzes their parameters and auto-generates UIs, turning each script into a standalone app or a reusable no-code module. Chain scripts into flows (branching, parallelism, retries, error handling) to build powerful workflows. Trigger anything via cron, webhook, auto-generated UI, or custom dashboards built with our app builder. Under the hood: an all-in-one queue/worker runtime, script editor, flow builder, secret manager, OAuth platform, with enterprise-grade permissions, groups, and audit logs.

The insight: no-code tools are intuitive but not extensible. Writing code is only 10% of the work - then you deal with credentials, CI/CD, permissions, UIs, error handling. Windmill handles all of that so developers focus on the logic that matters.

Stack: Rust / TypeScript + Svelte / PostgreSQL. Easy to deploy, works out of the box, replaces entire categories of internal infra.

Founded by Ruben Fiszel (ex-Palantir), who saw the need for enterprise workflow infrastructure but realized it had to be open-source, developer-focused, and built for best-in-class performance and DX - not another Spark wrapper.

300+ enterprise customers, 3M ARR, profitable. Tier 1 investors (YC, Google, Bessemer). Team of 10 engineers. Our customers run between 2 and 600 workers, 1 to +1,000 seats.

Revenue model: the core platform is fully open-source with thousands of individuals and companies using it for free. ~5% of features (enterprise-scoped: SSO, audit logs, dedicated workers, etc.) live in a private repository that companies pay to access, along with premium support. All revenue to date has been generated with zero outbound sales and modest marketing - purely inbound and product-led.
