AI-powered tech that makes business TV smarter, engaging, and…
Taiv is a fast-growing tech startup located in Winnipeg, Canada. Taiv uses AI to make business TV more fun, engaging, profitable, and easier to manage, starting with bars and restaurants. We’ve built proprietary tech that uses computer vision to watch live TV and improve the content with contextually-aware commercials, content, and games. Our tech also automates the manual AV tasks that venues have to do every day, to make bar management easier, standardized, and more profitable. We’re venture-capital backed and graduated from Y Combinator, the world’s top tech accelerator, in winter 2020. Program alumni include Airbnb, Instacart, DoorDash, etc. (www.ycombinator.com/topcompanies).
We are looking for a Senior QA and Automation Developer to join our growing team!
Our engineering team has grown fast, and testing hasn’t kept pace with it. QA and test automation have always lived inside the dev team itself, and as we’ve scaled that’s started to break: regressions are reaching production more often, and every team tests things a little differently. We’re hiring someone to fix that. You’ll own testing across all of Taiv, the box (firmware, software, and detection models), our web apps, and our backend. You’ll set the testing plan and policy the whole engineering org works from, and you’ll be hands-on building the automation to back it up. This role reports to our CTO and works closely with our VP of Software and our Firmware lead.
Build the test suite. Starting with one product area, you’ll build out a comprehensive automated test suite in your first few months, the template the rest of the org follows.
Set the testing standard. You’ll define how Taiv tests software, from what gets automated to what “done” means for a feature from a testing standpoint, and get every team bought in.
Cut down regressions. You own the outcome, not just the process. If bugs are reaching production, that’s your problem to solve.
Test across the whole stack. From detection models and firmware on the box to our TypeScript and React web apps, you’ll figure out the right testing approach for each and build the automation to match.
Work directly with engineering leadership. You’ll partner with our CTO, VP of Software, and Firmware lead to make sure the testing plan fits how each team actually builds.
You’ve built a testing suite before, not maintained one someone else designed. You know what it takes to stand up testing infrastructure from scratch and you’ve done it.
You’re fluent in Playwright and Maestro, or tools like them, and you can write test plans for both a brand-new feature and a five-year-old piece of legacy code.
You’ve tested across different kinds of software. TypeScript and React are familiar territory, and you’re comfortable testing Android apps too.
You think about testing at the systems level. You understand that testing firmware and embedded systems isn’t the same problem as testing a web app, and you can hold both in your head at once.
You can get other engineers to change how they work. Setting a standard is one thing, getting people to actually follow it is another, and you know how to do both.
5+ years of experience in QA and test automation, with real ownership of a testing suite at a previous company.
Hands-on experience with Playwright and Maestro, or comparable frameworks.
Experience testing TypeScript, React, and Android applications.
Experience writing testing plans and strategy for both new and existing features.

Taiv transforms awareness ads into performance marketing. Our computer vision algorithms are able to replace live TV commercials in bars and restaurants with targeted and measurable ads. We work with over 1,000 venues and many fortune-1000 advertisers like AbInBev, Coke, Pepsi, ESPN, and more.
Taiv makes businesses more fun, engaging, profitable, and easier to manage for patrons, business owners, and advertisers.
Our product is free for venue owners - we cover the cost of the hardware, install, and maintenance. They get to promote their own house advertisements, automate their TV systems, and access our streaming, trivia, and automation. We also give them control, for the first time ever, over which brands are allowed to advertise on their TVs. Whenever we run an ad, we share some of the revenue with the venue owner. We send a check to thousands of small businesses each month to help them generate incremental revenue.
We partner with bars and install custom hardware, which attaches to their cable box and uses computer vision to detect commercials in real-time (more about that below). When it cuts to commercial break, we dynamically insert ads that are perfect for that environment. We're also able to measure sales results based on point-of-sale data to provide closed-loop attribution - a first in our industry.
We’re a 40-employee in-person team who genuinely enjoy working together. We look for smart, passionate, and driven people who want to build something amazing. We have a fun culture and strive to create an easy-going work environment. We’ve raised a Series A and are one of the fastest growing companies in Canada.
