A place for independent writing.
The Substack mission is to build a new economic engine for culture.
We believe that by working with culture makers to build this engine, we can do more than simply halt a decline; we can contribute to a system that can be better than any in history—a system where there is growth instead of decay, where people have more power than unaligned algorithms or mad kings, and where the central currency is trust.
As a member of Substack’s Growth team, you will be responsible for building features that bring writers to Substack and help them succeed here – making improvements to discovery, internationalizing language and payments on Substack, strengthening Substack’s network of readers and writers, and running A/B tests on key user flows. Growth engineers work in close partnership with designers, product thinkers, and customers to make it easier than ever for writers to make a living.
Substack’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation salary range for this role is $175,000 - $215,000. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Experience at a fast-growing startup or working on a high-performing growth team is not required, but is a plus.
Substack is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or transgender status), age, national origin, veteran or disability status. We’re seeking people passionate about enabling independent expression and building a better business model for creators. If you want to see what media, communities, and content can become when unmoored from advertising models, and you have the skills and experience to contribute, we’d love to meet you.
Substack is building a new economic engine for culture, giving the most creative and interesting people on the internet the power of their own publishing platform. The terms of our culture shouldn’t be set by legacy media gatekeepers or chaos-fueling social platforms, but by the people who actively shape it. Substack’s model—based on direct subscriptions—has fueled an explosion of independent publishing. It empowers creators with economic autonomy, creative ownership, and a direct connection to their most engaged audiences.
