About the role

The Story

Our founders, Alec and Sajan, started Laylo after watching the music industry get strip-mined by platforms that owned the fan relationship and rented it back to artists. We're building the infrastructure for the next generation of entertainment: a direct messaging and CRM layer that lets creators own their audience, drop products to them, and drive real revenue without paying a middleman tax.

Today, Laylo is the drop CRM powering some of the biggest names in music, live events, and entertainment. We replace the patchwork of email, SMS, presave, and tour announcement tools with one platform. Over 40,000 creators use Laylo to drop more than $1B in tickets, merch, and music to millions of fans, including artists like Zach Bryan and Sabrina Carpenter, and festivals like Outside Lands.

We're a 24-person team based around the world, profitable, and growing fast. We went through Y Combinator (S20) and are backed by Eldridge, Sony, and other top-tier investors.

The Role

You'll be our first dedicated finance hire. No team to inherit, no playbook to follow. You'll build the financial infrastructure of a fast-growing SaaS company from scratch, reporting directly to the CEO.

This role is equal parts operational and strategic. One day you're modeling unit economics on a new pricing tier. The next you're pressure-testing the hiring plan against runway, or preparing board materials that tell the real story behind the numbers. You'll have a seat at the table for every major business decision, because almost every major business decision has a financial dimension.

If you get excited about being the single source of truth for a company's financial health, and you want to do it somewhere the product actually matters, this is the role.

What You'll Own

  • All financial operations: bookkeeping, AP/AR, payroll coordination, expense management, monthly close
  • The financial model: revenue forecasting, cash flow, scenario planning
  • Monthly financial reports and board materials
  • Budgeting and planning cycles with the CEO and team leads
  • Strategic analysis on pricing, messaging costs, and margin
  • Cost structure across headcount, software, and vendors. Every dollar earns its keep or it goes
  • Fundraising workstreams: data rooms, investor materials, diligence responses, cap table
  • Tax compliance, audit prep, and external accountant and tax advisor relationships
  • Financial systems and processes that scale at 2x and 10x our current size
  • Tooling decisions: accounting software, expense management, FP&A platforms

Your First Year

By day 30, you've taken over the monthly close, audited every recurring vendor and software contract, and have a clear view of where every dollar goes.

By day 90, you've delivered a revamped pricing model for our enterprise tiers backed by usage data, COGS, and competitive positioning. The board deck for Q1 is yours.

By day 180, you own the financial model end to end. You've renegotiated our largest vendor contracts, built the budgeting cadence with team leads, and are running the financial workstream for our Series A.

By day 365, the financial infrastructure of Laylo runs through you. You've helped us scale the team thoughtfully against runway, and made pricing and packaging decisions that materially improved gross margin.

Who You'll Work With

The CEO on strategy and planning. Engineering and product leadership on infrastructure and software cost. Sales and partnerships on revenue analysis and deal structure. You'll be the primary point of contact for external accountants, tax advisors, and investors.

What Makes You Great for This Role

Must haves:

  • 5+ years in finance, with meaningful time at a venture-backed startup (Seed through B)
  • You've been the primary or sole finance person before. You know what it means to own everything from AP to board decks
  • Strong financial modeling. You build models from scratch, you don't just maintain ones someone else built
  • Deep fluency in SaaS metrics: ARR, NRR, LTV/CAC, gross margin, burn multiple, Rule of 40. You think in these terms naturally
  • Fundraising mechanics: SAFEs, convertible notes, priced rounds, cap table management, 409As
  • Comfort with ambiguity. You know when "good enough" is good enough and when precision matters

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in creator economy, music, or entertainment
  • Familiarity with messaging platform cost structure (SMS/MMS, infrastructure scaling)
  • B2B SaaS pricing and packaging experience
  • CPA or equivalent, though we care more about what you've built than your credentials
  • Comfort with QuickBooks, Ramp, Carta, and modern FP&A tools
