About the Role

We’re hiring a Staff Software Engineer to help lead the next chapter of Distro’s technical evolution. You’ll operate as a hands-on technical expert, balancing execution with architectural depth, and play a key role in scaling our platform, improving performance, and shaping the systems that will power our growth.

This is a high-impact, individual contributor role for someone who thrives in early-stage environments. You’ll partner closely with our Head of Engineering and senior engineers, mentor others through technical leadership, and contribute to major architectural and product decisions that will define Distro for years to come.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain features across the full stack using React/Next.js, TypeScript, and MongoDB.
• Lead large, complex projects from ideation through production, balancing speed with technical rigor.
• Collaborate closely with product and design to translate customer needs into scalable, high-performing systems.
• Drive architectural discussions, code reviews, and technical decision-making to ensure a solid foundation for growth.
• Improve reliability, security, and performance across the stack.
• Mentor other engineers and help raise the technical bar across the team.
• Contribute to infrastructure, CI/CD, and tooling improvements to enable faster, safer iteration.

What We’re Looking For

• 8+ years of professional experience building and shipping full-stack web applications.
• Deep expertise with React/Next.js, TypeScript, and MongoDB.
• Proven experience scaling systems and teams in early-stage or high-growth startup environments.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals: you write clean, testable code and make pragmatic technical decisions.
• A bias toward execution and ownership: you see things through from concept to production.
• Ability to mentor peers and influence without managing.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills: you raise clarity and drive alignment.

Bonus Experience

• Exposure to AI/ML workflows, LLM APIs, or vector search.
• Experience improving developer velocity and system reliability at scale.

How We Work

• This is an in-person role based in Palo Alto.
• We’re in office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, Wednesdays are remote.
• Every engineer at Distro is an individual contributor writing production code.
• We prioritize speed, accountability, and strong cross-functional collaboration.
